Will Cheung FRPS Editor of Photography Monthly features 'Droplet on a Rose' for the photo forum section of the magazine, this is what he and Bob Moore Hon FRPS had to say about the shot...

Will Cheung FRPS:

'Flowers are a hugely popular subject, but despite that, it's still a subject that is hard to do well. I think Stuart has made and excellent photograph here so congratulations to him. I love the delicate feel that this image exudes and the fall-off in the lighting towards the corners holds the viewr's interest in the middle of the image - and that water droplet. Such intense reds can blend into a single area of solid colour, Stuart's image has oodles of subtlety.'

 Bob Moore Hon FRPS:

'I'm not usually a fan of garden flower picutres. The reason? It's because they are there, easy to photograph and it's difficult to get a personal interpretation with a subject that has been done to death. On the other hand, occasionally a picture will come along which shows that the subject can be tackled successfully. I love the soft muted colours and they work well, but it's the design and the texture of the image that lifts it out from the ordinary.'

Editor: Ed Godden...

 The Flower:
'Great angle on this shot. The flower really bursts out of the corner. Helped by the subtle background colour and the small hint of yellow on the bud.'

Editor: Rachael D'Cruze...

 Bridge at Ogwen:
'Great mono shot. Exceptional use of light.'

 The Ruins Of Dunluce:
'There's a wonderful mood to this Stu - very striking. Great job on the processing.'

 Toyota Land Cruiser:
'Great shot - love the angle.'

 Audi A4 Cabriolet:
'Very atmospheric, a great shot. Good angle and nice toning.'

Editor: Ali Jennings...

 The Landcruiser:
'definitely in your style, great picture and very dramatic'

 The Windmill:

 Bradwell Windmill:
'fanatsic mono shot, really dramatic, love it.'

 Bamboo Love:
'really nice look and process to the image - like the contrast and subdued colour'

Editor: JD...

 The Fir Cone:
'I love how still and sharp the foreground is, and the short depth of field creates a zoom effect on the trees in the background.'

 The Old Elephant:
'A very intense, moody treatment of the subject that relies on the absence of light, rather than its existence, to create the shot. It's almost a stencil - a series of lines that we know to be the outline of an elephant. Nicely composed, too.'
